Local Breweries to “Throwdown” for a Meatball Challenge
Throwdown!
“We wanted to do something fun together and have it make a difference in the community.”
On Friday, February 12, Burnt Timber Brewing & Tavern and Twin Barns Brewing Company will compete in the Lakes Region Brewery Throwdown Meatball Challenge with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Make-A-Wish NH. Held at Twin Barns Brewing Company in Meredith, the event will take place from 3 to 9 pm with a half-pound of meatballs priced at $12. Patrons will be given a token to place their respective votes for the winner. The loser will match the donation from the food orders.
“We wanted to do something fun together and have it make a difference in the community,” said Burnt Timber Brewing & Tavern Owner Eddie Michno, who said their entry will be Banh mi style meatballs. “It’s a take on a classic Vietnamese sandwich, and it will come with pickled veggies.”
Twin Barns will feature a sweet and spicy meatball. “It will have ground beef and a little ground pork with a bacon jam and a sweet and spicy sauce,” said Dave Picarillo, co-founder/owner of Twin Barns Brewing Company.
As for who he thinks will win, Picarillo said it is all in fun, as he cited he and Eddie go back quite a ways. “He was one of the inspirations for us starting this brewery,” he said. “We have been friends a long time and thought this would be a great collaboration and would be a fun time.”
Michno agreed, although said things might be different given the event takes place Valentine’s Day weekend. “There will no love between our breweries for this weekend,” he laughed.
In addition to the meatball challenge, Twin Barns Brewing Company will feature a variety of craft beer, including two offerings from Burnt Timber Brewing & Tavern. “This is a wonderful way for us to work together and something we may do again in March at our place, although we may go with sliders,” added Michno.
Advanced registration is not required for the event, as first-come will be first-served. To learn more about Twin Barns Brewing, visit twinbarnsbrewing.com.
