Local Businesses Prove “It Takes A Village”
“It Takes A Village”
When Eddie Michno opened Burnt Timber Brewing & Tavern in 2016, supporting local nonprofits was high on his ‘must do’ list, a priority that led to a recent adoption of Juneau, a pit bull/chihuahua mix. While the adoption took place at Lakes Region Humane Society (LRHS), it was made possible by many partner agencies. “It takes a village to save our furry friends,” remarked Megan Williams, LRHS executive director, who noted three organizations were involved in Juneau’s adoption.
Based in Georgia, Road Trip Home Rescue is one of three southern transport organizations with whom LRHS partners to help pets in dire need of homes reach safety in New Hampshire. During the month of December, Ashton & Company, CPA of Wolfeboro is sponsoring the transport costs for all pets arriving at LRHS from the south. “We also work with Chris' Hero Pups, who ensure active and retired military personnel, like Eddie, enjoy complimentary pet adoptions,” added Williams.
According to Michno, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, this is the second time he has worked with LRHS, which facilitated the adoption of Chrissy in December of 2013. “We got to know Megan back then and struck up a friendship through the years,” said Michno, who said their most recent adoption underscores how business works in the Lakes Region. “It’s actually not all business. It’s about people, relationships, and working together for a better community. It really does take a village.”
Williams added, “Lakes Region Humane Society is thrilled to see such wonderful teamwork on a regular basis. If we don't pull together to save our furry friends, who will?”
