Burnt Timber’s Pig Roasts Serve Up More Than Food

More than Food

“What we’re really doing is bringing people together.”

Burnt Timber’s popular pig roasts have become a local tradition on Sunday afternoon, but not just for the mouthwatering barbecue. “What we’re really doing is bringing people together,” said Owner Eddie Michno, who noted it takes the previous night to prepare and cook a pig. “Neighbors stop by while we’re lighting the fire, friends pitch in through the night—and by the time we serve, it’s a full-on community event.”

In total, each pig roast takes approximately 12 hours of slow cooking over fire, followed by about an hour of preparation before the meal is served. Typically held on Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the events are free to attend with plates available for purchase. Burnt Timber also caters private pig roast events upon request.

According to Michno, the experience has become a signature offering of Burnt Timber, which features ample seating both inside and outside. Often, pig roasts feature family-friendly programming, including the recent Memorial Day weekend event, where the 603 Line Dance Company led outdoor dancing for guests of all ages. “There were five-year-olds and seventy-year-olds out there dancing together,” said Michno. “That’s what we love—everyone having a good time, getting to know each other, maybe running into someone they haven’t seen in a while.”

Though a year-round gathering spot for locals, Burnt Timber sees a steady stream of tourists during the warmer months. “If you didn’t wake up on the wrong side of the bed and you’re looking to laugh, eat something amazing, and meet some good people—we’ve got you covered,” said Michno.
